London Mixed represents all the diverse nationalities that have contributed to the city’s cultural, sporting, political, artistic and social diversity.

Paul Harpin always wanted to do a humanist font. He is a friend of Eiichi Kono who designed New Johnson for London Transport, whilst they were working together at Banks and Miles in the early ’80s. Paul had also always admired and used Erik Spiekermann’s excellent Meta in all its sans, serif and half-serif guises.

“I took my London Roman font and made a sans version that became the Minimum, much like many humanist designers have done in the past, then I added an increasing level of serifs for the Medium and Maximum versions.

Sometimes fonts surprise you, and this one did — it evolved into an excellent text face, especially useful for web design. Try setting a headline alternating every third character with each differing style for a very distinctive effect.”
