LDN Bermondsey is one of a pair of high-contrast sans serif headline typefaces designed by Paul Harpin, with fine contrast strokes in the centre of the letter. Sister typeface LDN Borough has the fine lines on the horizontal access at the top and bottom. Paul was surprised how this gives the two faces such totally different styles within mostly the same outer letterform.
Borough may claim to to be the first and only ‘Borough’ of London, but Bermondsey has a notable history of its own and was mentioned in the Domesday book (‘Bermundesy’ and ‘Bermundesye’) as being in the Hundred of Brixton!
“Recently on their uppers, these two ancient areas are my favourite places to eat, drink, hang out and see new art”, says Harpin. Modern Bermondsey is the home of the BEER MILE and the High Street has fantastic galleries like the White Cube, Eames Gallery & The Print Room, as well as the Fashion + Textile Museum.
