LDN CircleLine is an eclectic slab serif in eight overlapping styles, designed by Paul Harpin to work well on their own or as stackable layers.
Paul drew inspiration from several sources; the Post Office Double Line typeface designed by John Miles (Banks & Miles), the simplicity of the London Underground symbol, and by Lance Wyman’s designs for the 1968 Olympic Games. “I used to draw the Olympic typeface when I was eleven years old” says Harpin.
“The whole idea was to have a single, double and triple line version of a font made almost entirely of circles and lines. The lovely surprise came accidentally, with the Inline, Outline and Hairline versions”.
“I realised the fonts could create an infinite range of multi-coloured striped options — when say the Triple Line is typeset on top of the Bold — especially if transparency is applied”.
