LDN Farringdon emerged from the ashes of a custom font project that was abandoned at an early stage. It was designed by Paul Hickson who was influenced by the clean sharp lines of Bodoni & Walbaum but also wanted to introduce a degree of softness into the letterforms.
This was achieved with the addition of rounded serifs, ball terminals and smoother final strokes on some of the lower case characters.
The end result is an elegant type family in two weights with matching italics, a distinctive hybrid style that merges contemporary and classical features to stunning effect. Paul also decided to create a set of initial swash caps echoing the steel cut engraving of the 18th & 19th centuries.
This seems to be developing into a theme (some might say obsession) with us!
